Welcome!
Creative New England is a family-owned and operated production-knitting studio in central Maine, established in 1986. As a young girl, you could always find Maureen near her grandmother as she sewed, knitted, or created garments from old coats, etc. Gram was very resourceful and shared her love and passion with Maureen. After Gram died, when Maureen was only 8, she turned to other creative members of her family to help her learn. As she reached Junior High, she took a Home Economics Class and blossomed. She soon was sewing garments for other friends and relatives, but fiber art was not yet her focus. As High School graduation came, and marriage loomed in the near future, taking care of her family became most important. She then started creating wardrobes for her children and began knitting again to provide for them. Once all her children were of school age and she was home alone, it was time to follow some pursuits of her own. Finding the need to help provide for her family, she started looking for something that would keep her at home, but supplement their income. A production knitting ad in the newspaper led her to purchase her first knitting machine. Jeremiah, Maureen’s son, showed an immediate interest in learning about the machines, and soon joined Maureen in the studio. Maureen then spent several years knitting for various production companies, which expanded her knowledge and experience. As individuals started asking her for specific one-of-a-kind items, she became interested in doing some designing and having her own product line. It was at this same time that she started hearing about alpacas and their luxurious fiber, so she explored the possibility of creating garments that would be cherished for a lifetime. ************************** Creative New England has developed some custom designs for our clients with alpaca, wool, angora, cashmere, and other wonderful natural fibers.
